Summer cosmetics: which ones to use and which ones to avoid

How does summer affect your skin?

During the summer months the heat increases and the humidity in the environment also increases, so the sebaceous glands of the skin begin to produce excess sebum, which remains on the surface of the skin making it oily and causing clogged pores.

In people with oily skin the bacteria and oils in the skin mix with sweat causing clogged pores and acne.

When the skin is exposed to the harmful rays of the sun, the production of melanin, which has photoprotective qualities, increases to protect the skin from sun damage. But excess melanin makes the skin darker and tanned. Other problems that can arise are itching, heat, sunburn and rashes due to sensitivity to the sun.

Cosmetics for the summer: do you need to change your routine?

Yes, as the seasons change, it's a good idea to change our skincare routine . The leather adapts to the new climatic conditions and has different needs and reactions in summer and winter.

Sunscreen . In the first place a fundamental cosmetic that you must never forget to apply in the summer: sunscreen . The sun's ultraviolet rays are harmful, even more so in the summer months.

Use a broad spectrum, 30 or higher, on all exposed skin. Remember to apply it also on the parts that are often neglected to protect: hands, feet, ears and lips.

This is the first tip, but remember that sunscreen is the last product, and therefore the last step, in your skincare routine. Apply it 15 to 30 minutes before going out. Look for one that's water resistant—sweat or water can't wash it off easily.

And for hydration?

Moisturizing cream . We know that in the warm months the skin dries out more easily. For most people, a light moisturizer that should be applied every 2 hours is ideal.

The moisturizer restores optimal condition to the outermost layer of skin, which protects against harmful pollutants and chemicals and prevents further irritation or dryness.
