DIY face cleansing: how to do it at home in 7 steps

Why is facial cleansing so important?

1 – Choose the right temperature for the water

Wash your face with hot water or cold water? In winter you will be tempted to wash your face with very hot water and in summer cold water is more desirable to cool you down.

Extreme water temperatures can have undesirable effects on your skin: very hot water can dry out your skin and make it very sensitive; very cold water will not give any benefit, at best it can be comfortable.

Clean your face by washing it with warm water - this is the best method.

2 – Choose the ideal cleanser for your skin

Which cleanser to clean your face ?

Choose one that suits your skin type – you'll find them for dry skin, oily skin, or sensitive skin.

  • Cleanser for oily skin : Try a cleansing oil. It seems a contradiction, yet the cleansing oil, applied by massaging the skin, eliminates impurities and leaves the skin shiny and hydrated.
  • Cleanser for dry and sensitive skin : The best cleanser for this skin type is a gentle, moisturizing product, such as micellar water .

3 – Cleanse your face

Pour a little cleanser into your hands and gently massage your face in circular motions. If necessary, add some warm water. The action of the detergent will eliminate the accumulated toxic residues and dissolve the dirt.

Rinse with plenty of water and pat your face dry, leaving it still damp.

4 – Exfoliate your face with a snail slime scrub

Exfoliation is a very important step in cleansing your face because it removes dead skin cells present on the outer layer. Thanks to exfoliation, skin care products will be able to penetrate and perform their function.

Use a scrub on the skin of the face , you can also use a snail slime product, still damp, performing circular and delicate movements for a few minutes. Don't apply too much pressure or you can irritate the skin. Finally rinse with warm water.

5 – Open the pores of the skin with the steam

Why use steam for facial cleansing ? The steam will remove toxins from the skin, deeply cleansing it and eliminating blackheads and whiteheads.

Take a saucepan and heat the water to boiling. Then cover your face with a towel and hold it a few centimeters from the saucepan. Do this "steam bath" for 5 minutes.

Finally, pat your face dry with a soft towel.

6 – Apply a facial mask

Here is another important step for cleansing your face. Applying a facial mask will make your skin soft, improving its tone. The wrap also has a beneficial and relaxing effect on the skin.

Choose a face mask that suits your skin , there are different types. Apply the compress evenly on your face and leave it until it dries. It usually takes 20 to 30 minutes.

Once dry, wash the mask with room temperature water and dry your face.

7 – Moisturize your face with a snail slime cream

It's time to moisturize your face skin . Apply a nourishing cream – there are snail slime moisturizers , for example – and massage the skin of the face with light movements. Gradually the skin will become soft to the touch and more luminous and refreshed.

Choose a moisturizer that's right for your skin . For example, for dry skin you can use face butter, while for oily skin you will find a gel-based cream. Also pay attention to the type of cream: there are day creams and night creams.

  • A day moisturizer protects your skin from the attacks of external agents, including the action of ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
  • Night creams , on the other hand, restore the natural levels of your skin and are part, as you have read, of one of the steps for a complete cleansing of the face at the end of the day.

For the skin around the eyes, on the other hand, you'll need to use a very delicate cream that doesn't cause irritation.

How to take care of your skin after cleansing your face

Now that you've followed the advice on do-it-yourself facial cleansing , all you have to do is continue to take care of your skin every day , especially protecting it from the harmful rays of the sun and cold winter air.

Your skin, after this cleansing, is more sensitive, so it needs more tricks to keep it healthy, glowing and thus maximize the treatment you have done.

Here are some tips you can follow to take care of your skin after cleansing your face :

  • Don't scrub your face excessively with exfoliating packets or scrubs for the next few days, or you risk irritating and reddening your skin.
  • Do not use aggressive or cheap cleaning agents . Always use delicate cleansers suitable for your skin type.
  • There is no need to take another steam bath the next day: the pores of your face are already open with the treatment you have done.
  • Always keep your skin well hydrated , not only with creams, but also by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • After cleansing your face , do not subject your skin to "aggressive" treatments such as lasers or waxes.
  • Don't pick at the skin on your face , such as picking pimples, as this could cause breakouts.

  • Have a balanced diet , including fruit and vegetables and avoiding fatty foods.
