Do you know how to use cleansing milk on your face?

First of all: what is a cleansing milk and what is it used for?

Cleansing milk is a type of facial cleanser consisting of a mixture of emollients and water used to remove make-up, dirt and sweat. At the end of the treatment, your face should be rinsed with water or by means of a facial wipe cloth.

What are the benefits of using cleansing milk on your face?

  • Unlike surfactant-based cleansers, cleansing milk does not remove sebum from the skin, so it leaves the skin soft and healthy, rather than tight and dehydrated.
  • Cleansing milk formulas are very rich in water, so these products can fully moisturise the skin while cleansing.
  • You can use cleansing milk wherever you are: it does not need water to be removed after cleansing. A cotton pad will do.
  • Cleansing milk often contains soothing ingredients that help calm redness and reduce irritation of sensitive and acne-prone skin.

Why should you use cleansing milk?

Being rather gentle on the skin, cleansing milk is suitable for daily use. Thanks to the peptides it contains, its gentleness does not reduce its cleansing effectiveness.

It is also suitable for all skin types: whether you have sensitive skin or dry, oily skin, you can use it regularly.

How to use cleansing milk on your face: the traditional method

Soak a cotton ball or a cotton pad, in lukewarm water, squeezing out excess water. Pour cleansing milk over it and massage your face for 2-3 minutes.

Rinse your face with lukewarm water, preferably at room temperature, then pat dry with a soft towel.

Use cleansing milk with a facial toner

After cleaning with cleansing milk, use a cotton wool pad to apply facial toner, which removes residual dirt and oil left behind by the cleansing milk. Use an alcohol-free toner as it is less aggressive on the skin.

Finally, cleanse your face with cold water or using ice, preferably in cubes.

This method should take you 10 minutes in total: 4 minutes for the first step with the cleansing milk, 2 minutes for the second step with the gentle cleanser and 4 minutes for the final step with ice cubes/cold water. You can repeat this procedure 2-3 times a week.

Facial cleansing milk as an exfoliant

Although we generally uses a facial scrub, cleansing milk can also be utilized as an exfoliant. But let's see how.

Pour enough cleansing milk into a bowl to massage the entire face. Then add half a tablespoon of sugar. With this mixture, start massaging your face until the sugar granules dissolve into the skin, then rinse.

The sugar granules moisturise the skin and can even revitalise the appearance of dull skin. Moreover, the granular consistency of sugar can improve skin elasticity by facilitating blood and oxygen circulation in the face.

This method should only be used once a week. If you have oily skin, exfoliate your face with light and gentle movements.

How to use facial cleansing milk according to you skin type:

  • Oily skin: use cleansing milk only once a day, preferably in the evening, and a mild cleanser in the morning.
  • Dry skin: use cleansing milk twice a day. Afterwards, use a moisturising cream.
  • Combination skin: use cleansing milk both in the evening and in the morning, cleanse your face with a mild cleanser.
  • Sensitive skin: it is best to use cleansing milk once a day so as not to irritate the skin. Do the same if you have acne-prone skin. If your skin is tanned, apply cleansing milk twice a day, as the milk soothes the burning sensation and smoothes chapped skin.
